06/03/20 - Updated/Information - MOUs & Negotiations

Dear RESPA members,

On Thursday, May 28, 2020, the Negotiations Committee met with the Executive Board pertaining to 2020-2021 negotiations and on how to proceed.  There are still many uncertainties that lies ahead, for students returning to schools, parents and members concerns.  Despite of these unprecedented moments, we are diligently working with great effort to collect as much information as possible from all members to assist in preparing for any circumstances that may arise.

According to the majority vote of the Executive Board, the decision was made to direct the Negotiations Committee, Chaired by John Havard tentatively not proceed with this year’s negotiations until next school year based on the budget deficit the state is currently facing.  We will utilize Memorandum of Understandings (MOU) to tentatively negotiate through these challenging times.  The MOU enables current and/or temporary concerns to quickly address, that will effectively be covered by the same means of our Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The MOU will assist the Negotiations Committee during the 2020-2021 year.  There are many concerns and questions members currently have pertaining to the CBA.  Now more than ever, we need all members in-put, which will support the Negotiating Committee.  As we prepare for future negotiations, it is vital to hear your voice.  Now is the time to let your voice be heard and your concerns known.  The Negotiating Committee is ready to serve and stand behind you.
